Manfacturing Line for Blood Gas Monitor

The first commercially available continuous arterial blood gas monitor was developed at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). This medical device uses an indwelling radial artery catheter with fiber optics to measure pH, pCO2, and pO2.

To complete this product development in less than a year, SwRI assembled a multidisciplinary team of electrical engineers, computer scientists, industrial designers, mechanical engineers, and optical physicists. SwRI assembled 20 preproduction prototypes for clinical trials and evaluation.
