Orthopedic devices are designed, modeled, analyzed and tested at SwRI.

Orthopedic implants have been developed by engineers at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) for many years. Devices are designed, modeled, analyzed and tested at SwRI. Tissue simulations can be created and used for performance evaluation. Capitalizing on the wide array of expertise of more than 3,200 staff members at SwRI, designs can include unique surface modifications and specialized materials, such as bioresorbables, controlled release growth factors, and memory materials. Devices we have previously worked on include:

  • Bone and pedicle screws

  • Spinal fusion cages

  • Prosthetic spinal discs

  • Facet replacement

  • ACL repair

  • Ankle/foot fixations

  • Hip replacements

  • Knee replacements

  • Tissue engineering scaffolds

  • Fusion monitoring sensor
